About the Program

The WISE Education Leadership Program was launched at the Qatar Foundation’s inaugural World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in 2009 to support current and emerging leaders in higher education around the world.

This four-day workshop aims to help prepare the next generation of global higher education leaders to manage the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead.

The goals of the WISE Education Leadership Program are to develop the leadership and administrative skill sets of new university presidents and serve as an enabling environment for change and development. The WISE Education Leadership Program will provide experience-based training through case studies, workshops, expert speakers and role-playing exercises.

Key topics that will be covered during the WISE Education Leadership Program include:

  • Best Practices in Institutional Management
  • Principles of Leadership and Variety of Academic Leadership Styles
  • Institutional and Personal Agendas/Goals
  • Coaching and Team Building
  • Decision Making
  • Working with Governing and Advisory Boards
  • Managing Academic Personnel and Resources

 

Participation in the WISE Education Leadership Program is free of charge. The Qatar Foundation will also provide round-trip airfare to Doha, hotel accommodations, local transport, meals and conference materials.

The WISE Education Leadership Program is being organized by the International Association of University Presidents (IAUP), the Institute of International Education (IIE), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

 

Eligibility

Presidents, vice-chancellors, and other heads of tertiary education institutions appointed to the current position after January 1, 2011 are eligible to apply to the third WISE Education Leadership Program that will take place in Doha from October 7 – 10, 2012.

All applications must be received by July 3rd 2012.

Participants who are selected for the program will be notified by the end of August.

World Summit Youth Awards 2012

Registration is now open for World Summit Youth Awards 2012 that are open to young people (under the age of 30 years from any of the UN member states) that have developed any sort of innovative project or product using information technology aimed at helping their community.

The applicant may be a developer of website or mobile apps, e-content writer, journalists or writer, application designer, technologist or anyone contributing to address poverty, protecting the environment, sharing knowledge and empowering young people.

Award Highlights

The Youth Award is not a cash award. The reward for winners is to be recognized on a world stage, to be invited to the winners’ events, to be able to connect with each other and discuss with renowned experts in the field of ICT for Development. Last year, winner’s events took place in New York, USA.

The WSYA selects and promotes best practice in e-Content. It demonstrates young people’s potential to create outstanding digital contents and serves as a platform for people from all UN member states to work together in the efforts to reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Dutch Postcode Lottery Challenge 2012

The Dutch Postcode Lottery’s sixth Postcode Lottery Challenge 2012 is now open. This international annual competition calls on creative, innovative thinkers from around the world to submit business plans for sustainable products and services.

The competition is seeking business plans that can directly reduce CO2 emissions, score highly on design, user-friendliness and quality, and ready to be in the market in two years. Social Entrepreneurs can enter their business plans for sustainable, creative and innovative products and services. The best business plan will win 500,000 EUR, and an additional 200,000 EUR is available for one or two other promising plans.

2011 Ink Fellows Program

THE INK CONFERENCE, in associated with TED, is an annual conference that aims to fuel innovation and foster knowledge by bringing together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers from a range of disciplines such as art, design, science, social entrepreneurship, sports and technology.

INK 2010 featured Speakers such as science educator and innovator Arvind Gupta, filmmaker James Cameron, founder of Wired magazine Kevin Kelly, design guru Philippe Starck, and anti-trafficking activist Sunitha Krishnan.

THE INK FELLOWS PROGRAM will recruit 20 young innovators to attend the INK 2011 Conference in Jaipur, India, December 8th – 11th, 2011.
