She Will Innovate: Technology Solutions Enriching the Lives of Girls competition

Intel Corporation and Ashoka Changemakers have announced the launch of the She Will Innovate: Technology Solutions Enriching the Lives of Girls competition, which is designed to find innovative solutions that equip girls and women with new digital technologies, enabling them to live healthier, smarter, and more meaningful lives.

The competition is open to all types of individuals, organizations, and collaborations from all countries as long as the solutions apply directly to bettering the lives of women through information and communication technologies. Special consideration will be given to innovations developed by women for women between the ages of 18 and 34.

Entries should identify innovations that accelerate women’s socioeconomic progress by empowering them with digital solutions to improve their health, education, and well-being. To be considered for an award, entries must indicate growth beyond the conceptual stage and have demonstrated impact and sustainability.

Ashoka Changemakers’ Innovations for Health: Solutions that Cross Borders Competition

Ashoka Changemakers and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Pioneer Portfolio are seeking health care solutions from anywhere in the world that have the potential to be applied in other countries to improve health and health care.

If you are an innovator with a health care solution that has the potential to be applied in other countries to improve health and health care, then you can submit your entry. This competition is looking for initiatives that have demonstrated impact and help vulnerable and underserved populations. Entries are accepted in English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French.

“1 of 7 Billion” Global Film Competition

“1 of 7 Billion” is a global short film competition, organized by the 7 Billion Actions initiative and the Foundation 10.12.48. It is designed to inspire people everywhere to use their talents to explore one of the seven key issues targeted by 7 Billion Actions:

  • Poverty and breaking the circle of inequality
  • Empowerment and progress of women and girls
  • Young people
  • Reproductive health and rights
  • Healthy environmental and healthy people
  • Aging
  • Urbanization-planning for growth.

The deadline for submissions is 9pm GMT on February 15th 2012. Winners will be announced on 8th March, 2012, which is International Women’s Day.

 

Submission Requirements:

  • Films must be in digital form.
  • Films should be from 1 to 10 minutes in length, including credits.
  • Entries must have English subtitles if presented in another language.
  • The author of the piece will be responsible for the originality of the work.
  • Each entry must focus on one or more of the 7 key issues of the 7 Billion Actions campaign.
  • Each team or individual may submit up to two short films.
  • Films must be accompanied by an online entry form.

All Children Reading Competition – Call for Proposals

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), and World Vision are inviting grant proposals from interested organizations for innovative programs with potential to improve reading skills and low literacy rates among primary grade children.

Through a multi-year initiative called ‘All Children Reading – A Grand Challenge for Development (ACR)’, the Founding Partners have plans to collaborate to achieve the goal of global action to improve child literacy.

Objectives

The All Children Reading Competition aims to encourage innovative thinking and design to bring new knowledge to the challenge of improving primary grade reading rapidly and at scale in certain countries. Applications from and relating to low- and lower-middle income countries are particularly encouraged.

Google Photography Prize

Google+ is only a few months old, but the photography community is already thriving on it. More than 3.4 billion photos have been uploaded in the first 100 days.

Google have teamed up with Saatchi Gallery, London for the Google Photography Prize, a chance for students around the world to showcase their photos on Google+ and have their work exhibited in a major art institution.
